From 1 October 2026, businesses in Australia can no longer add a surcharge to Visa, Mastercard or eftpos card payments. This follows the Reserve Bank of Australia's review of card payment costs and surcharging.
If you set parking rates in BaseUp, you don't need to change anything in your management portal.
How BaseUp pricing works
The rate you set in the dashboard is the amount you receive. If you set a rate of $15.00, you're paid $15.00.
Drivers see one total price in the app before they pay. In this example, the app shows $15.58. That total is the same whichever payment method the driver uses.
What the extra amount covers
The difference between your rate and the total price is a payment service fee. It covers:
Fraud detection on every transaction
Refund management
Collecting payments on your behalf, reconciling them, and paying the funds out to you
This fee is not a card surcharge. It doesn't change based on how the driver pays, and it's included in the price drivers see before they pay.
What this means for you
You don't pay or absorb the fee. Drivers pay it as part of the total price, and your payouts stay the same
